The Shaftesbury Theatre is a West End Theatre, located on Shaftesbury Avenue, in the London Borough of Camden.

The Shaftesbury Theatre was first opened in 1911, with the production The Three Musketeers. The building was designed by Victorian Architect, Bertie Crewe, known for designing some of the UK’s finest theatres. In 1914 theatre changed its name to The Princess Theatre.  The West End London theatre remained opened despite two bombings during Second World War and has been offering audiences a cultural programme.

In 1962, under new management of Charles Clore, The London theatre changed its name to The Shaftesbury Theatre. It brought the theatre’s luck as it ran How to Succeed in Business Without Trying, Broadway’s biggest success, with over 500 performa. In 1968, when official theatre censorship ended, The Shaftesbury Theatre opened Hair and played it for record- breaking 2000 times. After 5 years of successful musical, the Theatre had to start renovation of the building In 2006, the London theatre underwent a large refurbishment, with the entire stalls and dress circle being reseated, redecorated and all front of house areas being refurbished.

The Shafetesbury Theatre is a Grade II listed west end theatre with a seating capacity for 786 people over three levels. In 1984 The Theatre of Comedy Company took ownership and is current owners of the West End theatre today.
