St Martins Theatre

St. Martin’s Theatre is located in West Street, near Charing Cross Road, in the London Borough of Camden. W.G.R Sprague designed Martin’s Theatre as a pair of theatres with the Ambassadors Theatre which opened in 1913; the St Martin's Theatre début was delayed by the outbreak of World War I: the first performance of Houpla took place on 23 November 1916.

This London West End Theatre is still owned by the Willoughby de Broke family. Bertie Meyer, was closely involved in the St Martin's in its early days, and he ran the theatre intermittently from 1916 to 1967, when his son R.A took over he was the administrator of the West End Theatre for twenty years until his retirement in 1987; he remained as a consultant of St. Martins Theatre until his death in 1991.

The West End theatre is best known for production of Agatha Christie's The Mousetrap which originally opened at the adjacent Ambassadors Theatre, It was played for the first time in 1974 and it’s still there today, holding the world record for the longest running show in the West End. Many famous British actors have passed through St Martin's Theatre such as Basil Rathbone, Henry Daniell and Hugh Williams.

St. Martin’s Theatre is a Grade II listed West End theatre with a seating capacity for 550 people. St. Martins Theatre is a unique theatre in the West End with fact it has a polished wood interior. The Theatre’s auditorium is smaller than most West End Theatres, and is based on only three levels
